ClickUp posts per-user rates for two of its four plans: Unlimited at $7 per user, per month billed yearly and Business at $12, with Free Forever at no cost and Enterprise quoted by sales. For B2B buyers, the harder question is not the seat rate but which usage ceiling forces the upgrade — and which costs sit outside the seat rate entirely.
What it is and who it’s for
ClickUp is a work management platform sold in four tiers: Free Forever, Unlimited, Business, and Enterprise. Each step up raises both feature access and hard operational ceilings.
Free Forever targets small teams and early evaluations. It carries unlimited tasks, unlimited free plan members, collaborative docs, Kanban boards, sprint management, and 24/7 support, but pairs them with 60MB of file storage and 1 form. Enterprise sits at the other end for organizations with formal identity and audit requirements, listing SAML SSO, SCIM provisioning, audit log, session management, an enterprise API, and US, EU, and APAC data residency.
How it works
ClickUp’s packaging works by raising numeric ceilings rather than only unlocking features, so the plan a team needs is usually decided by whichever limit it hits first.
| Ceiling | Free Forever | Unlimited | Business | Enterprise |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| File storage | 60MB | Unlimited | Unlimited | Unlimited |
| Spaces | 5 | Unlimited | Unlimited | Unlimited |
| Lists per space | 40 | 200 | 400 | 1,000 |
| Folders per space | 100 | 200 | 400 | Unlimited |
| Active automation rules | 5 | 500 | Unlimited | Unlimited |
| Automation executions | 100 | 1,000 | 5,000 | 250,000 |
| API calls | 100/min | 100/min | 100/min | 10,000/min |
| Pulse live overview | 1 day | 1 day | 7 days | 30 days |
History retention moves on a separate track. Activity history runs 1 day on Free Forever and 7 days on Unlimited, while message history is 30 days on Free Forever and unlimited from Unlimited upward.
Advanced automations — webhooks, email, SMS, and integration actions — appear on Business and Enterprise rather than on the lower tiers, which is the practical dividing line for teams routing work between ClickUp and other systems. On Free Forever, a long list of planning tools including Gantt, Timeline, Workload, Goals, Dashboards, Time Tracking, Timesheets, Sprint Points, Clips, Proofing, and Email in ClickUp is marked as trial access rather than as included capability.
Pricing and cost considerations
Two of the four tiers carry posted per-user rates, at both billing cadences.
| Plan | Billed yearly | Billed monthly | What the tier adds |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free Forever | $0 | $0 | 60MB storage, unlimited tasks and free members, 1 form, 24/7 support |
| Unlimited | $7 per user/month | $10 per user/month | Unlimited storage, spaces, folders, forms, Gantt charts, integrations, and custom fields |
| Business | $12 per user/month | $19 per user/month | Unlimited dashboards with advanced cards, 5K automations per month, Google SSO, unlimited proofing |
| Enterprise | Contact sales | Contact sales | Enterprise permissions, SAML SSO and SCIM, audit log, session management, enterprise API, 250K automations per month |
ClickUp advertises savings of up to 30% on yearly billing. Measured against the posted rates, the gap is exactly 30% on Unlimited and closer to 37% on Business — the same annual-commitment trade covered in our guide to annual vs monthly SaaS billing.
AI is a second per-user charge rather than a feature of the plan, and ClickUp prices it on its own page section with its own yearly discount of up to 20%.
| AI plan | Price | Included allowance |
|---|---|---|
| Free Forever AI | $0 | Trial access to advanced AI features |
| Brain AI | $9 per user/month | +1,500 AI Super Credits per user, per month |
| Everything AI | $28 per user/month | +5,000 AI Super Credits per user, per month |
Stacked on a seat, that matters: Business at $12 plus Everything AI at $28 is $40 per user, per month before any credit top-ups.
Two billing rules change the arithmetic further. Upgrades apply to an entire Workspace — ClickUp states that upgrading means upgrading all members in the Workspace, so a paid plan cannot be scoped to one team. And payment is per Workspace, meaning an organization running several Workspaces upgrades and pays for each one separately. Paid users added mid-cycle are billed at a prorated rate for the time left in the cycle.
How to choose
Match the plan to the first ceiling the team will hit in daily operations.
Free Forever fits teams that need task tracking across many people with light file handling and a single intake form. The 60MB storage cap is usually the binding constraint, since it covers file attachments across the whole Workspace.
Unlimited is the upgrade for teams that need operational room rather than governance: it lifts storage, spaces, folders, forms, integrations, and custom fields to unlimited, and raises automation executions tenfold to 1,000 a month.
Business is the fit when reporting depth and automation volume start to matter more than workspace expansion. It adds unlimited dashboards with advanced cards, 5,000 automation executions a month, and the advanced automation actions that connect ClickUp to outside systems.
Enterprise becomes relevant when identity, provisioning, auditability, or data residency are formal requirements, and it is the only tier that lifts API throughput from 100 to 10,000 calls per minute. It is quoted rather than posted, which puts it in the contact-sales pricing category alongside peers such as Asana’s Enterprise tiers.
Limitations and gotchas
The trial markers on Free Forever are not a time-limited trial. ClickUp defines a “use” as cumulative across a Workspace, and says uses do not reset or count down; on reaching the limit a team keeps its data but can no longer create or edit items with that feature. Planning a rollout around trial-marked tools such as Gantt or Dashboards therefore means budgeting a fixed number of uses, not a number of days.
Guest seats are the easiest cost to miss. Free Forever Workspaces take unlimited members and guests at no charge, with guests holding full create and edit permissions that cannot be narrowed. Paid plans invert this: Unlimited grants 5 guest seats for a one-paid-user Workspace plus 2 for each additional paid user, Business grants 10 plus 5 per additional paid user, and Enterprise matches Business with advanced permission options. Anyone from inside the organization added to a Workspace is billed as a paid user rather than counted as a guest.
Some structural limits are not seat-based at all. The number of Teams is capped at 2 on Free Forever, 3 on Unlimited, and 10 on Business.
Several compliance and procurement items stay sales-led regardless of tier. ClickUp marks HIPAA compliance and contract and legal review as contact-sales, and lists MSA and HIPAA as available on Enterprise rather than included in it.
FAQ
Do tasks count against the 60MB storage cap?
No. ClickUp says file attachments are the only thing that affects a team’s storage.
Does ClickUp discount for nonprofits, students, or startups?
Yes to all three. ClickUp runs a nonprofit discount, an academic discount for students, educators, and administrators, and a startup credit that is applied for through a separate form.
What is the refund window?
ClickUp’s satisfaction guarantee is a full refund if a buyer asks within 30 days. Cancelling outside that window leaves the current plan running to the end of the billing cycle, unless the team chooses to downgrade immediately.
What do extra AI Super Credits cost?
$0.001 each, or $10 per 10,000. The monthly allowance included with an AI plan is shared across the Workspace rather than reserved per person, and it fuels Super Agents, AI Fields, automations, and image generation.
Which payment methods does ClickUp accept?
All major credit cards. Bank transfer is available only for Enterprise orders that meet a minimum, which is one more reason Enterprise spend has to be confirmed with sales.
